Medical marijuana doctor for Land O' Lakes patients

Land O' Lakes patients see our physician at our Temple Terrace office, about 14 miles away, or roughly 25 minutes without traffic by US 41 south, Bearss Avenue, and Fletcher Avenue. Florida requires the first certification exam in person. After that, renewals can usually be done by telehealth, so you are not driving US 41 every time.

Is there an office in Land O' Lakes?

No. Our only office is in Temple Terrace. Land O' Lakes patients drive south for the first exam.

Land O' Lakes is an unincorporated community in Pasco County. US 41 is its main north-south road and leads almost directly toward our area.

How do I get to the office from Land O' Lakes?

Take US 41, called Land O' Lakes Boulevard here, south into Hillsborough County, where it becomes North Nebraska Avenue.

Turn east on Bearss Avenue, jog briefly south on Bruce B. Downs Boulevard, then go east on Fletcher Avenue to North 56th Street. East 131st Avenue is just south of Fletcher.

We measured about 14 miles and roughly 25 minutes on open roads. This route uses surface streets with traffic lights, so timing depends on the day.

  • If you live closer to State Road 54 and I-75: I-75 south to Fletcher Avenue, then west to North 56th Street, is another option.
  • Check a live map before you leave; US 41 and Bearss Avenue both slow at rush hour.

Why is the first visit in person?

Florida requires it. Before an initial certification, the physician must do an in-person physical exam, meaning the physician is physically in the same room as the patient.

At the visit, the physician reviews your health history and any records you bring, then decides whether you have a qualifying condition under state law.

How do telehealth renewals help from Land O' Lakes?

A round trip is close to 30 miles of stop-and-go driving on US 41 and Fletcher Avenue. A video visit replaces it.

Traffic lights along that route make timing hard to predict, so skipping it saves more than the mileage alone suggests. Patients who work in Pasco often take the video call on a lunch break.

Telehealth is allowed only for renewals: a physician who already certified the patient after an in-person physical exam may do that patient's later exams and re-evaluations by telehealth.

Re-evaluations are due at least once every 30 weeks. We send a reminder before yours comes up.

Should I use US 41 or I-75 from Land O' Lakes?

It depends on where you live. From the US 41 corridor, driving straight south is usually simplest, and it avoids the interstate entirely.

If your home is on the east side, near State Road 54 heading toward Wesley Chapel, getting on I-75 south and exiting at Fletcher Avenue can be quicker.

Both routes end on Fletcher Avenue and North 56th Street. We measured the US 41 route from the community's center at about 14 miles.

School-hour traffic along US 41 and Bearss Avenue can slow things down. A late-morning appointment often gives the smoothest drive.

Which conditions can qualify?

Florida law lists: cancer; epilepsy; glaucoma; positive HIV status; AIDS; post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD); ALS; Crohn's disease; Parkinson's disease; multiple sclerosis; conditions of the same kind or class as or comparable to those; a terminal condition diagnosed by a physician other than the certifying physician; and chronic nonmalignant pain.

Only the physician can decide whether your condition qualifies. That decision is made at the in-person exam.

Common questions.

Do I have to drive from Land O' Lakes for every visit?

Just once. Your first certification exam happens face to face in Temple Terrace, and our physician can then handle your renewals over video while you stay home in Pasco.

What is the usual route from Land O' Lakes?

US 41 south (it becomes North Nebraska Avenue in Hillsborough), east on Bearss Avenue, then Fletcher Avenue east to North 56th Street. It is about 14 miles, roughly 25 minutes without traffic.

I live in Pasco County. Can I use a Hillsborough County office?

Yes. The program is statewide, so the county you live in does not limit which qualified physician you see.

Is Land O' Lakes too far north for your office?

No. At about 14 miles it is one of the shorter trips on our list, close to the distance from downtown Tampa or Brandon. Because the route is mostly surface streets, it can feel longer than the mileage suggests.
